Brothers,

Tonight's chapter was a productive one. We have decided to keep the Mu Chapter website and revamp it in order to allow for easier updates and a forum on which the accomplishments of the Mu Chapter can be displayed. Brother Styerwalt ‘15 has volunteered as webmaster and have the revamped site running by the summer. Brother Neeson ‘15, one of the co-chairs of Derby Days, has laid out a fun and different schedule of events to excite and engage the whole of campus.

The Harman Award Dinner is going to be an event that will celebrate the Harman Award and give the award and this year’s recipient, Andrew Newman ‘15, their proper respect. As of now it is still being planned around the plethora of philanthropy events this spring, but will most likely be on a weeknight in mid April. I will let you know the actual date as soon as I know it.

Those are the updates for this week; I hope that you all continue to bring new luster to the White Cross of Sigma Chi.

Brothers,

I hope you all enjoyed the beautiful weekend if you are in Ohio. This week we are participating in Pi Beta Phi's philanthropy events Pi-Phi-Palooza. We will have a flag football team in the charity tournament, we hope to win and make a lot of money for our friends in Pi Phi to donate to their foundation.

We are also preparing for the Relay For Life, a event that happens all across the nation to promote cancer awareness and celebrate the survivors. We will be a part of the Fraternity and Sorority Life team, with Brother Spencer Greene ‘14 in mind. There is a Greek Hour where the proceeds of that hour going to the Chapters foundation. We expect to be full force at the event and plan to donate the money to the same foundation we are donating the Derby Days money to, the Oligo Foundation.

The Harman Life Loyal Sig Award Dinner will be held at the Sigma Chi House on April 21. This year we are giving ex-pro consul Andrew Newman ‘15 the award and we hope that you will be able to join us for the first of many Harman Award Dinners. This would be a terrific opportunity to reconnect with the active chapter and open the lines of communication once again. I hope that I will see some of you there.

Brothers,

This past week the brothers of the Mu Chapter have participated in multiple philanthropy events, including the Pi Beta Phi event Pi Phi Palooza and the Kappa Sigma event Volleyball for Vets, supporting the Wounded Warriors foundation. We are happy that we have been able to be a part of these other organization's events because it has changed the way that fraternities view other fraternity's events. We now regularly attend other's events, and they will attend ours. It is all for a good cause!

The Richard C. Harman '35 Life Loyal Sig Award dinner will be next Tuesday, April 21, at 7 pm at the house. I am excited to have heard back from a handful of alumni and I am hoping a few more will come. As for the members of the chapter, we are happy to have this opportunity and look forward to honoring Andrew Newman ‘15 with the award.

Next week is also Derby Days, and Brothers Neeson ‘15 and Higman ’15 have been hard at work setting up events and making sure that any organization who wants to be a part has that opportunity.

Initiation of the new pledge class will be this Sunday, April 19. I have heard from a few alumni that they will be present and I am very happy to hear that. When I was initiated, it was amazing to see some Mu Sigs from back in the 40's there. To meet the men who helped bring the Mu Chapter to where it is today and learn about the history was fantastic. I hope that this pledge class will have that opportunity was well.

Brothers,

This Sunday is initiation. Since there is a lacrosse banquet at 10 am and a great deal of our members and a soon to be new initiate are on the team, we have had to push things forward a bit. The final part of the ceremony will begin at 830 am. If you plan to attend, we will be happy to see you there. I am sorry for the late notice.

Brothers,

Today was a great day for the Mu Chapter. We initiated 7 new members; Jordan Williams ‘17, Thomas Hayes ‘17, Brenner Boddell ‘17, David Heyer ‘17, William Kendall ‘17, Timothy Evans ‘17, and Anders Soderberg 17. Although a smaller pledge class, these young men exemplify the Jordan Standard and are a terrific addition to this chapter. They will carry the legacy of the Mu Chapter in the positive path that we are headed.

This week is our Derby Days philanthropy event, Brothers Neeson ’15 and Higman ‘15 have been working tirelessly to be inclusive and thorough in planning the entire event. There is an event every day of this week, and they are all very fun. Tomorrow there is a volleyball tournament; Tuesday there is a Brother Auction where our talents will be auctioned off to the highest sorority bidder; Wednesday there is a BBQ at Lamson Lodge to bring everyone together and have some fun with the lovely Greek ladies; Thursday we have a Lip-Sync contest, where the ladies will perform a dance and lip sync to a song… all is very fun and each event will raise more and more money. As mentioned previously, we are donating to the Oligo Nation, foundation to support Brother Spencer Greene ’14 who has a rare form of brain cancer. This foundation provides research for that specific cancer. We are happy to help this foundation and our brother.

Please let me know if any of you would like a shirt from Derby Days. I know that Brother Dean Weaver ’89 would like one, and we have already put it aside. I will be reaching out to parents of the active chapter members as well, they have voiced that they would love to donate and receive a shirt.

This Tuesday is the Richard C. Harman '35 Life Loyal Sig Award Dinner. It is at the House at 7 pm, there will be a majority of the active chapter there as well as some alumni. I am excited to start this dinner as a tradition. I believe that this award and the one that it is presented to deserve the recognition and the celebration. I look forward to seeing many of you there.
