H. Hudson Baumes, M.D. '55

Dr. H. Hudson (Hud) Baumes

Hud Baumes entered the Chapter Eternal on July 5, 2005.

Dr. Hud Baumes was a family physician who served the community of Anderson Township for twenty eight years. He died unexpectedly at the age of seventy-two.

Upon retirement from his position at Mercy Anderson Hospital, a written salute to his career acknowledged, “We will miss your caring, your dedication, the loving ways in which you created and nurtured the concept of what a family doctor should be.” A guide. A listener. A friend. Another human being reaching out for connection and meaning, his dedication and caring extended far beyond the practice of medicine.

Hud was a lifetime resident of Cincinnati and attended Walnut Hills High School, Denison University and University of Cincinnati Medical School. He was proud to serve as Lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve. Additionally, he was honored to participate and serve in the following organizations: varsity football and track at Walnut Hills, varsity football and lacrosse at Denison, team physician for Anderson High School, member of the University of Cincinnati Foundation (UCATS), Sigma Chi Alumni Association (Denison), member of the Cincinnati Academy of Medicine, member of the University Club of Cincinnati, member of Boyne Highlands Country Club.

Hud was an extraordinary husband, brother, father, grandparent and friend. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Myra (Kettner); brother, Wilford Lloyd "Bud" Baumes '61; son, Lloyd Ross Baumes and daughter-in-law, Lisa Thurner Baumes; daughter, Lee Ann Baumes, and four grandchildren; Morgan Lee Petzelt, Blake Hudson Petzelt, Hannah Helen Baumes and Lily Susanne Baumes. His father Ogden Hayward Baumes, M.D., his mother, Dorothy Hudson Baumes and brother, John Ross Baumes, preceded him in death.
