George A. Watkins '44

George Watkins, age 83, of Canton entered Chapter Eternal April 29, 2006. He was born June 10, 1922 in Massillon to the late Benjamin H. and Mabel (Parker) Watkins and lived most of his life in the area.

He graduated from Massillon Washington High School in 1940 and Denison University in 1944. He was a Navy veteran of WWII in the submarine service. He retired from sales in the steel and forging industry.

George was a member of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Massillon; member of Washington Lodge #253 F.&A.M., and the Navy League. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Diana (Darden) Watkins in 1981; and his sister, Phyllis Hall. George is survived by his son, David D. Watkins of Springfield, OH; sister, Jane (Lawrence) Hitchins of Sewickley, PA; brother, John P. "Jack" (Florence) Watkins of Naples, FL.

At Denison, George affectionately was known to his fraternity brothers as "Waddie." Always loyal, Waddie always could be counted on to be on-hand for Mu Chapter functions in Granville and, for many years, joined his Mu Sig brothers from the class of 1944 at their annual winter reunion in Pensacola, Florida. Suggested memorials are St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Massillon or to the American Cancer Society.

All honor to his name.
