Tom L. Thompson '59Tom “Tommy’ Thompson entered the Chapter Eternal on June 2, 2015. He was born on August 17, 1936 in Dunkirk, New York to Robert and Lois Thompson, Tom spent his childhood years in Fredonia, New York.

Tom attended the Rectory School, Darrow and graduated from Denison University in 1959. He joined the United States Marine Corps and graduated from Officers' Candidate School, serving as a Company Commander in Southeast Asia. He left the military service as a Captain before joining Armstrong World Industries in 1963.

With Armstrong World Industries, Tommy gained expertise in sales and marketing and was District Manager / Floor Division in both Kansas City and Los Angeles. He subsequently held executive sales positions at Rain Bird and Trojan Battery.

In his earlier years Tom was an avid tennis player and always loved the challenge of golf. As the children were growing up, he coached their sport teams and was active in the Boy Scouts program. A member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach, Tom participated as a Stephen Minister and as a Deacon. He was a member of the Advisory Board of The Salvation Army, Orange County.

In 2005, Tom received the 'gift of life' as a transplant recipient which led him to become a volunteer for Donate Life, going on to build ten more years of wonderful memories with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Kirkland Thompson, Corona del Mar. They met at Denison University and were married in 1960. Travel, entertaining friends, creating memories with their children and grandchildren, and being active members of the community represented a great part of their life together.

Tom is also survived by their children: Stephen, his wife Andrea - Dallas; Stephanie and her husband Troy Anderson - Marblehead, Ma. and their three children - Walker, Lyndsey and Chase. An infant son, Robert Mark Thompson passed away in 1963.

Tom showed great courage in battling serious health issues over the years, always retaining his great smile and remaining hopeful until the end. He put his trust in the Lord for his safekeeping.
