Frederick W. Robbins '34

Fred Robbins '34Frederick “Fred” Robbins entered the Chapter Eternal on June 10, 1999. He was 87 years old and passed away in his Naples, Florida home.

Born July 2, 1911, in Columbus, Ohio, Fred grew up in Cambridge and, following graduation from Denison and military service, was for many years a prominent business and civic leader, owning and operating a men’s clothing business in that city. 

At Denison, Fred was an outstanding athlete in track and field, holding an Ohio record for the high jump, and in basketball, where he led the Big Red to a conference championship.

During World War II, Fred was a Naval Officer serving in the South Pacific. He participated in the invasion of Okinawa. 

After completion of military service, Fred returned to Cambridge where he became active in many civic and business organizations, including Rotary, The American Legion and The Chamber of Commerce.

Fred was an accomplished golfer and was club champion of the Cambridge Country Club for several years. In retirement, he moved to Marco Island, Florida where he enjoyed many more years of golf as a member of the Island Country Club. 

He participated every February for many years with other active Mu Sig Alums of the 1930s in the annual Mu Chapter and Denison retreats held in Naples, Florida.
