Michael A Heekin '62Michael A. “Mike” Heekin entered the Chapter Eternal May 23, 2010. He was 69 and had been living in Hickory, North Carolina.

Brother Heekin was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Edward F. and Ruth Kirby Heekin and was a 1958 graduate of Walnut Hills High School of Cincinnati, where he excelled in sports. Following graduation from Denison in 1962, he received an MBA from Central University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Science degree from San Francisco State.

Mike’s career was in human resources management, retiring from Rockwell International of Lenoir, NC. Previously, he was employed as a personnel manager with Burlington Industries and A.P. Parts both of Goldsboro, NC.

Brother Heekin served as a United States Air Force captain in the Vietnam War, stationed in Thailand. During his military service, he was awarded the Bronze Star, among other decorations.

A lifelong Republican, Mike served as chairman of the Wayne County Republican Party from 1972 to 1974 and attended, by invitation, the 1972 presidential inauguration.

Also an avid golfer, he achieved three holes-in-one in his career. He was a member of Catawba Valley Country Club for more than 25 years.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Heekin; his parents; and his brother and Mu Sigma Chi, Edward F. Heekin, Jr. ’58. He is survived by his daughters, Andrea Gail Heekin and Sarah Llewellyn Heekin; his brother, Timothy Heekin; his nephew, Geoff Heekin; a niece, Katherine Heekin; and his stepdaughters, Marsha Carson and Karen Meads.
