William T. Hayden '76

William T. Hayden '57William "Bill" Hayden, 58, entered the Chapter Eternal on April 27, 2012, in an aircraft accident in Anderson, South Carolina. A noted Cincinnati lawyer and private pilot, Bill was the beloved husband of Debbie Hayden (Kraus), Denison '76, loving father of W. Taylor, Jr. (Sarah), Michael, Amy, and the late Page Ann Hayden, devoted son of Joseph P. and Lois Hayden, Jr., dear brother of Jay (Tessie), John (Carrie), and Tom (Ann) Hayden. He also is survived by many loving family members and friends.

A memorial service held May 3, 2012 in Cincinnati was attended by over 80 family, friends and former associates and included The White Rose Ceremony honoring members who have entered The Chapter Eternal -- the only ritual of the Sigma Chi Fraternity permitted to be observed in public. More than 20 Sigma Chis participated in this solemn, moving ritual, including four Mu Chapter Sigs; Sandy Thomson '59 (Cincinnati, OH), Joe Richardson '75 (Cincinnati, OH), David Conley '76 (Rye, NY), and Fred Stuart '76 (Winnetka, IL).

In his law career, Bill served on the board of directors and as an external general counsel for the Midland Co., which was run by his brother John until 2010. The $1.3 billion insurance company was founded by their grandfather in 1938. He also practiced corporate governance law at the firm Katz Teller Brant & Hild in downtown Cincinnati, gaining a reputation in legal circles as an expert in bankruptcy financing.

"Bill very much cared about Cincinnati." said John Hayden. "And those who knew him and worked with him knew that he ran very deep and if he cared about you knew it."

All honor to his name.
