Dale C. Haynes '47

Dale C. Haynes, of Johnstown, entered the Chapter Eternal on Monday, January 18, 2010, at the age of 84, in Johnstown, Ohio.

He was born May 29, 1925 in Newark, Ohio where he lived until joining the United States Navy in August of 1943. He entered the Navy V-12 Program at Denison University from July 1944-June 1945 and NROTC at the University of Kansas from July 1945-June 1946. He was released to inactive duty in June 1946 and commissioned ensign in April 1947.

Dale graduated from Denison University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics in June 1947. He was recalled to active duty from USNR Organized Reserve in September 1950 during the Korean War. He graduated from Naval General Line Post Graduate School, Monterey, California in Advanced Communications in December of 1950 and was assigned to the USS Rockbridge (APA-228), attack transport, where he served as communications officer and assistant operations officer in both the Pacific and Atlantic until released to inactive duty in October 1952. He was discharged from the USNR in 1966 as lieutenant commander.

Following his service in the Navy, Dale worked for the Westinghouse Electric Corp. for 23 years as merchandise manager of the Major Appliance Division and eighteen years as district manager of the Commercial Division for Sears Roebuck and Company. He retired in 1990. He was a Life Loyal Sig and also a member of the Triangle Lodge 748 F&AM and the Scottish Rite-Valley of Columbus.

He is survived by two step-sons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Burneal Watkins Haynes, in 1992 and by a brother Dr. Earl R. Haynes.
