William G. Catron III '67

altWilliam "Bill" Catron, age 65, entered the Chapter Eternal November 13, 2010 in Spokane, Washington after a six-month battle with cancer.

Bill was born November 6, 1945 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He was the younger of two children born to William and Frances Myers Catron. The family moved to Alton, Illinois, where Bill's father started a long-time career in the grain business. The Catrons then moved to Park Ridge, Illinois, where Bill, Sr. joined the Chicago Board of Trade. Bill attended Field School, Lincoln Junior High and Maine Township East High School. It was at Field School in the sixth grade that Bill met his future wife, Kathy Doherty. After graduating from Maine Township East in 1963, Bill enrolled at Denison and he and Kathy were married during his senior year, on March 31, 1967.

Bill graduated and the happy couple moved back to Chicago where he attended Northwestern University School of Law. He started his law career with Monsanto Corporation in St. Louis, Missouri. Later, Bill worked for the Mattel Corporation in Hawthorne, California, Paramount Studios in Hollywood, California and Galoob Toys, Inc. in South San Francisco. He was a member of both the Illinois and California Bar Associations.

Retiring in 1998, Bill and Kathy moved to Spokane in 2002. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph's Council 8872. He also was an active member of the Spokane Lions' Club. Bill's hobbies included horses, traveling, boating and wine tasting. It was his love of wine that led him to work for two years for Vino! A Wine Shop in Spokane. He had a passion for all things baseball and a special love for his Chicago Cubbies.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Kathy of Spokane; son, Kevin (Laura) serving in the USAF JAG Corp; son Jake of Spokane; grandchildren, Mackenzie, Abby, Alex and Avery; devoted sister, Betsy Catron Meyer '64, of Bedford Hills, New York and his good buddy, Dusty, a yellow lab.
